Grade A wood waste, also known as pre-consumer wood waste, consists of clean, untreated softwood and hardwood. It includes a range of wood waste, including packaging materials like pallets, packing cases, and cable drums, as well as offcuts from the production of virgin timber and untreated boards. Before processing, Grade A wood waste may contain small amounts of non-hazardous surface coatings or nails.

Typical sources include furniture, door, and window production, as well as the distribution and retail of wooden packaging materials.
